back to school in style

 

I used this pattern and made way too many of these skirts out of left over fabric from pervious projects.  I am not much of a clothing maker, I do love to sew but I always say I can only sew a straight line.  So when I do something you know anyone can do it.  I followed the pattern and it worked!!!  I added some covered button hair ties for a little girl’s matchy matchy complete outfit.  And let me tell you at 8 Ella is being so kind and saying she loves them and wants to wear one on the first day of school.  I scored a point here…

 

273 and counting

273 blankets in 2 weeks... countless e-mails to coordinate all of it... 91 volunteers...728 hours of service...273 babies will feel comfort because of your generous donations of time and materials.  91 people celebrate at disney for a day!  Way to go!  Binky Patrol is going to deliver in So Cal...

 

I am expecting a ton more this is only the beginning... stay tuned. 

SWAMPED!

I am more then swamped right now… please excuse my absence for blog world for a while.  The “Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.” program has kept me so busy with the Binky Patrol.  If you want to visit Disneyland or Disney world this year and would like to donate your time to the Binky Patrol please look into it!  There is more then likely a Binky Patrol near you. 

 

I do have a couple of fun sewing projects (a quilt for baby Holden and a valentines skirt for Ella) to post about.  As well as baby updated photos (I know you all love that) and our home made valentines.  I will be back soon!

Gift ideas

Getting ready for Christmas around here includes party planning, Santa’s lists, and crafting, shopping, card making along side the every day jobs.  Having a new baby in the mix too!  This year I am going to find 1 thing to make and hopefully it will work for a number of gifts.  Teachers, nieces, friends, sisters etc.  While I am searching I wanted to share some of  years past handmade holiday ideas…   Hopefully I will get on schedule soon, running behind this year!

No Sew Blanket

 

Several times this month I have been asked how to make the "no sew blankets" for the binky patrol and I thought it would be easer if I posted about it here so I could direct volunteers from binky patrol to this link.  If you still do not know about the binky patrol be sure to check it out.  I am sure there is one in your area already.  And if not, start a chapter of your own!  These no sew blankets are perfect for boy scouts and girl scouts to lend there services, and donate warm blankets! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Materials needed:

Two complimentary pieces of fleece material that are exactly the same size  (you will end up with a blanket that is 8 inches shorter than the material you start with so keep that in mind.)

Fabric scissors

Straight Pins

1.   Put fleece fabric together wrong sides together

2.   Pin around edges

3.   Cut up 4” of both fabric pieces 1” wide around all four sides to make fringe. You will have a 4” square in each corner discard.

4.   Start at one corner and begin to tie the fringe of the two layers together. Simple knot is best.  Do not pull fleece at tying because some resizing will happen.  Try to keep even ties

Once you have tied all the way around, you can remove your pins! You’re all done!

Epson Stylus Photo RX595

The Epson Stylus Photo RX595 rocks!!!  This printer is perfect for my everyday printing needs.  We had big plans in this house to go to the Veggie Tale concert yesterday and of course I thought to myself I had to make them all shirts to wear to the big show.  Together the kids and I printed, colored, scanned and finished these shirts with the Epson Stylus Photo RX595.  This is how we did it…

First we printed the coloring sheets off of the Veggie Tales website.  The kids colored the sheets as best as they could.  Having done this before I suggest they use markers (I even shared my markers with them, they thought it was a very big deal I was sharing my stuff with them) crayons don’t come out as vibrant.  After all the finishing touches were on their masterpieces I scanned them and printed out the image onto Iron On Transfers.   I also would recommend if doing “text” on your image you will need to reverse or flip your image in order for the next step to come out.  We then placed the image where we wanted them and simply ironed and peeled the backing off.  Ella really got into this part.  I have done this before for birthday parties and some of their favorite artwork they bring home from school… “Look Mom I am wearing my fish that I made at school on my shirt ”.   Having the Epson Stylus Photo RX595 made this project and my everyday printing just what I need!  You never know when you are going to need to whip out a photo project right?

Paci Clips

Check!  One more thing off my list.  I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.  Good thing being that I am about to POP soon.  I made these easy paci holders very quickly, here is how…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Materials Needed

7 ½” ribbon

Paci Clips (I found my on ebay)

Eyelets

4 part Snaps

Crop a dile

 

 

I have found that the crop a dile is a very useful tool for this project!  I made 20 of them in a very short time.  Using all of my left over ribbon I did not even need to break out my sewing machine.  Easily placing the ribbon thru the clip and using the eyelet to attach together permanently.  With the other end I folded it up 1 inch and attached the 4 part snap (don’t let this intimidate you directions on package of snaps).  And I was done!  Attaching the paci is temporary and easy to remover for cleaning or changing of size.  This length seamed good to me being that too long would get dirty fast if dropped ( and chocking hazard if it could wrap around neck) and too small would be very annoying to Mom!

 

Ok off to my next project… boredom busters for the older kids… I need to make them some new things for present from the new baby.  I plan on bring this to the hospital for the kiddos to get and play with in my room.
